Nat King Cole
Nat King Cole (1919-1965) was an American singer, pianist, and songwriter, known for his smooth, warm voice as well as his mastery on the piano. Originally a jazz pianist, Cole gained popularity in the 1940s with his jazz trio, but it was his career as a solo singer that made him one of the most beloved figures in 20th-century popular music.
His performance of standards such as Unforgettable, Mona Lisa, and The Christmas Song cemented him as an international star. Despite the racial barriers he faced, especially in the music industry of his time, Cole stood out for his elegance and unique style, combining jazz with popular music and crooning.
In addition to his talent as a singer, Cole was also a pioneer in television, being one of the first African-American artists to have his own television show. His legacy lives on as one of the most iconic and beloved voices in music history.
