Ornette Coleman

Ornette Coleman (1930-2015) was an American saxophonist and composer, a pioneer of free jazz, a style of experimental jazz that broke with traditional harmonic and rhythmic conventions. His revolutionary approach challenged pre-existing structures, allowing musicians greater freedom in improvisation.

His album The Shape of Jazz to Come (1959) is one of the most influential in jazz history, marking the beginning of the free jazz era. Throughout his career, Coleman explored new forms of expression, using his music to challenge norms and open up new creative possibilities.

In addition to his work as a saxophonist, he also led his own band and composed music for a variety of genres, including classical music. His legacy lives on as one of the most innovative and challenging artists in jazz history.
