McCoy Tyner

McCoy Tyner (1938-2020) was an American pianist and composer, known for his powerful percussive style and innovative use of modal harmony.

He gained recognition as the pianist for John Coltrane's legendary quartet in the 1960s, appearing on iconic albums such as A Love Supreme and My Favorite Things. His playing, based on open chords and a strong sense of rhythm, influenced generations of pianists.

After leaving Coltrane's band, he developed a successful solo career with albums such as The Real McCoy and Sahara, exploring both hard bop and Afro-Latin music. His legacy lives on as one of the most distinctive piano voices in jazz.
